Mixin’ With the Bird and the Bee
Filed under: Mixin' With Series,Mixtapes | Posted by:

For this week’s addition of our “Mixin’ With” series, Inara George of Los Angeles-based electro jazz pop duo the Bird and the Bee sat down and gave us her Top 10 Songs to Cook Dinner For Company To. Inara is the daughter of Lowell George, who founded the rock and roll/country/funk/a little bit of everything group Little Feat, so it’s no wonder that Inara is such a talented songwriter and chanteuse…it’s in her blood. You can catch Bird and the Bee at Coachella on April 25th and then at the New School University in New York on June 2nd. Check out her mixtape after the jump!

In Living Color: The Pierces the Bowery Ballroom
Filed under: In Living Color | Posted by:

I finally got to see the Pierces live last night and let me tell you, they put on one of the most entertaining and engaging shows that I have seen in a long time. With their feisty between song banter, perfectly blended harmonies that only sisters could achieve, and a couple of ballerina inspired dance moves thrown in for good measure, by the end of their set, they had everyone in the sold out crowd completely enamoured. The highlight of their set was when they sang their new song, “I Shot My Lover in the Head.” It was a hilarious, foot stomping, howling tune that I can’t wait to hear recorded. I found a Youtube clip of the girls singing the song from a previous concert below. Also, be sure to check out more photos from the show after the jump!

In Living Color: The Morning Pages at Spike Hill
Filed under: In Living Color | Posted by:

I got the chance to check out the Morning Pages this weekend over at Spike Hill in Brooklyn. Like always, the guys were amazing and proved that good innovative country based rock and roll still exists. They are currently in the studio recording their first full length record with Russell Simins of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. The Pierces (see the previous post) are said to be lending back up vocals on a number of the tracks. There is no release date currently set. Also, thanks to Ben Arons for the photos. In addition to taking these beautiful shots, Ben is also engineering their record. Check out more of his work by clicking here.

YouTube Preview ImageGeorge Jones- Tennessee Whiskey

What’s smooth, sweet and warm? It’s either George Jones’ love interest in the song ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ or this fine cup of Whiskey Tea! Get ready for some heavy relaxation when you mix up this heavenly concoction. With milk, sugar and a whole of lot of whiskey, it’s sure to hit the spot. Hmmm… is 11 am too early for tea time?
