Alyssa and I stopped by a BBQ last night hosted by Old Californio. I See Hawks in LA, Mike Stinson, Dave Gleason and more all took the stage while fire dancers and fireworks lit up the streets. Check out more photos of the evening after the jump.
The first song I heard when I stepped into the Little Joy last night was Townes Van Zandt’s “Dead Flowers.” An inspired start to the evening, if you ask me. From that point on, Cowboy Nick (of KXLU and KCSN ), Fred Kiko (of KXLU’s Demolisten) and Chad Brown (of CB Brand) put on one of the best sets that I’ve heard at the Little Joy, spinning Don Williams’ “Tulsa Time”, Steve Young’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”, and I think it was Jerry Jeff Walker’s version of “LA Feeway.” Check out photos of the evening below.
Ben Reddell, of Welldigger’s Banquet, has given us his “Top Ten Songs For The Summer.” With tunes by Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, T.Rex, Bruce Sprinsteen and more, this mix is guaranteed to get your geared up for the long holiday weekend (only one more work day, folks)! Shel Silverstein week also continues on this mix with the closing song, Emmylou Harris’ “Queen of the Silver Dollar.” You can catch Welldigger’s Banquet this Sunday, July 6th at the Echo for the weekly country music get together, Grand Ole Echo. We will be there. You should too! Check out the mixtape after the jump.
