Paul from Setting The Woods On Fire is back with Part Two of his Hank Williams Goes Twang Mixtape. This time around, he features covers of Williams by Townes Van Zandt, Leon Russell, Wanda Jackson and more. If you missed the brilliant Part One, you can check it out by clicking here. Enjoy!

Hank Williams Goes Twang Part Two:

1. Doug Sahm – Hey Good Lookin’: “There’s soda pop and the drugs are free. If you wanna have fun come along with me.” Need I say more?

2. Merle Haggard – My Heart Would Know: Another A+ Hank cover from Merle.

3. Leon Russell – Jambalaya (On The Bayou): This one comes from Leon’s excellent foray into country music called “Hank Wilson’s Back.” Well worth checking out.

4. Wanda Jackson – You Win Again: Wanda’s country-period material doesn’t have quite the same kick as her brilliant rockabilly stuff, but this one’s nice.

5. Johnny Cash – I Heard That Lonesome Whistle: The tempo is maybe a touch too slow, but I won’t quibble with Johnny. It’s a winner.

6. Patsy Cline – Your Cheatin’ Heart: Patsy spices this one up a tiny bit and it works. “You’re gonna walk the floor, the very way I do.”

7. George Jones – Last Night I Heard You Cryin’ In Your Sleep: George plays it straight to great effect.

8. Steve Young – Rambin’ Man: Another tour de force cover from the underrated Steve Young.

9. Townes Van Zandt – Honky Tonkin’: I really like the clippety-clop junkyard percussion. (Credit producer “Cowboy” Jack Clement?)

10. Elvis Costello – Why Don’t You Love Me Like You Used To Do?: “Why do you treat me like a worn out shoe?” Elvis doesn’t get much respect for his all country album (Almost Blue), but he did a really nice upbeat take on this track (which hasn’t been covered as much as you might expect).
