2009 has started off to be an amazing year for music. Not only have a ton of really great records been released in the past two months, but I have also had the privilege to attend some of the most memorable and inspiring shows of my young concert going life…and all in the course of just a couple of weeks. India and I went by the Hotel Cafe last night to see AA Bondy for the first time since falling in love with his record, American Hearts, last year. I came in with a whole load of built up expectations and while he didn’t exceed those expectations (he seemed a bit tired and kept mentioning having to drive all night through the desert), he did hit them straight on and put on a very solid show with some really interesting live interpretations of the tunes that I have come to love and cherish.

Then, we decided to stick around for an hour to catch Robert Francis’ taping for a segment that will air on Last Call With Carson Daly. I don’t know what those guys were drinking, but Robert and band blew my mind last night. Their shows are always good, but with the two female vocalists (both of whom are Robert’s sisters) and the band playing an incredibly impassioned set, they took it to the next level for me. I’ll let you know when the segment airs so you can get a little taste of their energy that night. In the meantime, you can check out more pictures from the evening, taken by the wonderful India Brookover, after the jump.

hey, did you happen to catch the airing of the Robert Francis set on Carson Daly Live? I caught the last 2 minutes of the show and whatever Robert Francis was playing was incredible. Wanted to see if I could track down the song. Would much appreciate . . .

I still get goosebumps thinking about watching and listening to Robert Francis. The new segment is up on his MySpace page and that amazing solo acoustic song he ended the night on is towards the end of the Carson segment.

Hey Kirk!
The three song they used in the piece were “All of My Trains” “I Do What I Can” and “Junebug.” “I do what I can” is the acoustic one that he played at the end…and I don’t believe that it has been released in any official form. Hopefully it’ll be on his next record!
