Willie Nelson Goes Twang
Filed under: Mixtapes,Twang Series | Posted by:

This week’s Twang Mixtape is dedicated to the one and only Willie Nelson, in honor of his 76th birthday. On the mix, we feature covers of classic Willie tunes by the likes of Waylon Jennings, Iron and Wine, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash and more. Check it out after the jump. I’m also planning on doing a Willie: Part Two, so if you have any requests/good song ideas, let me know in the comments.

Willie Nelson Goes Twang:

1. Patsy Cline- Crazy
2. Iron and Wine/Calexico- Always On My Mind
3. Al Green- Funny How Time Slips Away
4. Beth Rowley- Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground
5. Waylon Jennings- Pretend I Never Happened
6. Phosphorescent- It’s Not Supposed To Be That Way
7. Ray Price- Are You Sure?
8. Aretha Franklin- Night Life
9. Doug Sahm- Me and Paul
10. Johnny Cash- Time of the Preacher

Great mix.

Find and listen to Bob Dylan’s version of “Angel Flying too Close to the Ground”, if you get a chance. Absolutely amazing.

Joe’s right – Dylan’s take is great. I don’t have it anymore but remember it well. W.
