The Growlers – Little Miss Jack
Dancing skeletons and dead animals seem appropriate for the day before Halloween. This video comes to us courtesy of Costa Mesa, California band The Growlers. Los Angelenos can check out their particular blend of dark psychedelic surf rock tonight at the Bootleg Theater alongside local duo Pocahaunted.

Following his 70th birthday in September 2004, the BBC documentary What Leonard Cohen Did For Me explores the Canadian singer-songwriter’s enormous influence. Musicians paying tribute include Nick Cave, Ian McCulloch, Rufus Wainwright, Arthur Smith, Kathryn Williams and Paul Morley. The Youtube player is set up like a playlist, so when the first clip stops, the next clip will automatically start. Enjoy!

Those Darlins are vulgar. They throw bottles, spit beer across the stage, talk about boobs and sex and yell at audience members for not dancing. And damn it there’s a single person who left that show not wanting more. Because somehow in the mix of things, Those Darlins come out being one of the most charming bands around with their incredibly infectious booze-infused rock and roll. I can’t wait to catch them when they come through town again on November 17th for a show at the Troubadour. Seriously, you won’t experience anything else quite like them. More pics, taken by Andrew White, from their Silverlake Lounge show on October 22 are after the jump.
Uncle Tupelo on Critical Mass: The Interview
Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy, and Mike Heidorn are interviewed in their apartment in December 1988. Part Two of the piece, featuring performances of “Graveyard Shift” and “Factory Belt”, is after the jump.
Los Angeles-based musician John Wood of Learning Music has given us his “Top 10 Songs to Pretend You’re Happy To.” The mix, which you can check out after the jump, features tunes by Dock Boggs, Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams and more. Learning Music releases an album every single month through a subscription series called Learning Music Monthly. They also just released a compilation today, entitled This May Also Be It, that features tunes from their last six albums. You can download the compilation for free by clicking here.
