Leon Russell and The Whispering Pines in Pioneertown
Filed under: Tonight in LA | Posted by: jody
If you are still looking for something to do this weekend, I recommend heading out of Pioneertown (just outside of Joshua Tree) for two very worthy shows at Pappy and Harriets. Los Angeles band Whispering Pines is set to play tonight at 8 pm and the legendary Leon Russell will play a special Sunday afternoon show tomorrow. So why not check into Room 8 at the Joshua Tree Inn (where the late great Gram Parsons said adieu) and have one hell of a country tinged rock and roll weekend. More info about the shows can be found here.

Nice link. Have you seen this entire session? I have it on DVD. It is this rollicking, wiry, roustabout collection of songs and strange studio happenings. The one woman who bakes a cake during the whole thing is fantastic. Leon, at times, conjures up the church and the field seemingly out of thin air. I love this self-indulgent mess of sounds and sights…its a treat to bring it out and give it a whirl after a late night on the stools.
