It Was Twenty Years Ago Today is a look at the Beatles’ classic album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the broader cultural scene during the year of the record’s release, 1967. The documentary aired in 1987 on PBS on the 20th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper’s release and was connected to a book the Beatles press officer, Derek Taylor, had written. The film features interviews with George Harrison, Paul McCartney, George Martin, Allen Ginsberg and more. The footage gets cut off before the end but the existing footage is definitely worth viewing.
