New Bonnie Prince Billy Record and MP3
Filed under: News | Posted by:

Bonnie “Prince” Billy (aka Will Oldham) is set to release a new live album, Funtown Comedown, on December 15th via Sea Note. The vinyl and digital only release, which features the Kentucky bluegrass band the Picket Line, boasts live covers of old Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Palace tunes as well as a handful of classic country songs. A new version of I See a Darkness‘ “Death to Everyone” has been released as a teaser. It was recorded during the same sessions as the new LP but doesn’t actually appear on the record. From the sounds of that tune, I have a feeling Oldham’s latest effort might just make my Best of 2009 list. Check out the tune and the tracklisiting after the jump.

Them – Mystic eyes and Gloria

Them featuring a very young Van Morrison performing “Mystic Eyes” and “Gloria” in 1965 or 1966.

Our favorite Darlin’s are back in town for a show tonight at the Troubadour alongside King Khan and the BBQ Show.

UPDATE: King Khan has canceled the Troubadour gig but the show will go on tonight for Those Darlins at the Silverlake Lounge! Their set time is at 10:30 pm and the show is $8 (an improvement from $15 for the Troubadour gig). Please help spread the word about the venue change.

If you missed the last time Those Darlins made their way through Los Angeles, you can check out pics and a review from the show here. But let me just tell you, I’ve seen the Darlins a handful of times now and they do not disappoint. They are pure rock and roll maniacs on stage (spitting beer, talking about boobs and sex and yelling at audience members for not dancing) and you’ll love them all the more for it.  I will be there tonight. Will you?

Beck is in the midst of a project he calls the Record Club, in which he covers an entire record with the help of various friends. So far, he’s tackled VU’s The Velvet Underground & Nico and Leonard Cohen’s Songs of Leonard Cohen. Next up on the list is Skip Spence’s 1969 solo effort Oar. The first tune,  “Little Hands”, has just been posted and features Beck alongside friends Wilco, Feist and Jamie Lidell.  The rest of the album will be posted in the coming weeks on Beck’s website. Check out Skip Spence’s original version of the tune after the jump. How do you think Beck’s cover compares?
