Olivier from the French band Nouvelle Vague has given us his “Top Ten Songs That Make You Fly, Fall in Love, and Keep Faith.” The mix includes tunes by Johnny Cash, Serge Gainsbourg, Louis Armstrong, the Beach Boys and more. Nouvelle Vague just released their third full length record 3 in October (out now via Peacefrog Records) and are currently in the midst of a world tour that will take them to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming weeks and then over to the US in January with a stop in Los Angeles on February 9th at the Henry Fonda Theater. Top Ten Songs That Make You Fly, Fall in Love, and Keep Faith:
Here is a list of songs that I would definitely take on a desert island.
I remember the first time I heard them, I have been listening to them tousands of times, and I know I will listen to them until the end.
1. Beach Boys- God Only Knows
This song makes me cry. Brian Wilson gave us one of the most beautiful song ever. I will thank him for that forever. I guess he was touched by the hand of God when he wrote this song.
2. Harry Nilsson- Everybody’s Talking
How can a song touch you so deeply, from the first time you hear it to the end of your life? Every musician’s dream on this planet is to compose something like that.
How is it working?
God only knows.
3. Sufjan Stevens- Chicago
This young man has delivered my favourite song of this new century. I discovered this song and then, I was in Chicago for the first time of my life. All in all made something I will remember all my life.
4. Rolling Stones- Let’s Spend the Night Together
Nerve. Energy. Sex. Love.
5. Serge Gainsbourg- Requiem Pour Un Con
I hope people in the USA know this Gainsbourg song.
The drums intro has been sampled so many times!
Our only french genius in pop music (we have 3 or 4, you have 100)
6. Louis Armstrong- We Have All The Time In The World
This song appeared on a James Bond soundtrack. It’s so beautiful. John Barry + Louis Armstrong, what a magic combination.
7. Johnny Cash- Ring of Fire
Trumpets. How can I love this song so much?
I don’t even know what the lyrics are about…
Please forgive me: I am french, so understanding the lyrics of a song in English needs translation to me. I don’t do it every time!
8. Roy Orbison- You Got It
Nobody was really expecting Roy Orbison at the end of the 80’s. But he appeared again, with a beautiful album, and made everybody cry again! The most beautiful voice in rock music.
9. Chris Garneau- Dirty Night Clowns
Just discovered this one. Don’t know that much about Chris. This song is amazing. I am listening to it 10 times a day.
10. Lee Hazelwood- Some Velvet Morning
Lee Hazelwood is another hero and genius to me. RIP.
Nouvelle Vague- Road To Nowhere (Talking Heads cover)
