Lissie – Wedding Bells

Lissie performs Hank Williams’ “Wedding Bells” live at Chessvolt Studios in Los Angeles in November 2009. You might have noticed that it’s a different melody than the Hank Williams’ original. As Lissie explained on Daytrotter: “Wedding Bells” is a Hank Williams song that I’ve never heard. A friend of mine just began playing the guitar and had taken his lyrics and put them over a C to Em type repetitive chord progression… I adapted what she’d done by adding a few more chords and a bridge. It’s a song about the one that got away and I thought the lyrics were poignant and haunting. The emotion it implies is cathartic to embody when I play it.”
