Band Spotlight: Breathe Owl Breathe

Breathe Owl Breathe

Breathe Owl Breathe, who hail from East Jordan, Michigan, are another band that will be performing at When You Awake’s Two Year Anniversary Party this Friday, February 26th at the Bootleg Theater. I discovered the trio last August when I stumbled upon their inspired set at the Pickathon Music Festival in Portland, Oregon. They had the entire audience doing the wave, patting their hands on their thighs to make it sound like rain and pretending to be sabortooth tigers. They were utterly charming and won over my hardened music industry heart within seconds. They are currently touring in support of their upcoming release, a new LP entitled Magic Central which will be out on April 6th. They also just announced a 20-date tour beginning in April with the North Carolina band (and When You Awake favorite) Megafaun.

Two little known facts about Breathe Owl Breathe: 1. They have a dog that has 3 names (Hogan, Karhu, and Dragon) depending on his personality at any given moment. 2. Andrea is fluent in German, Portuguese, (and English), Trevor has a masters degree in Geography, and Micah has run 4 marathons.

At Friday’s show, they will be playing alongside Eric D. Johnson (of the Fruit Bats), Leslie and the Badgers and Shakey Graves. Tix are $10 in advance, $13 at the door and you can buy them here.  You can check out the poster for the show and Breathe Owl Breathe’s additional tour dates after the jump. Tomorrow’s spotlight: Los Angeles band Leslie and the Badgers.

Great name for their dog. My name is Hogan also, however I don’t usually change it depending on moods.
