Leslie and the Badgers

Leslie and the Badgers are a band that we’ve covered from the beginning. They were the subject of our very first Garden Party feature. They headlined the first show that we put together under the When You Awake Presents name and  have appeared at all of our tribute concerts. Basically, these When You Awake favorites were a natural choice to appear at our Two Year Anniversary Party on Friday at the Bootleg Theater. And boy, have those Badgers been doing well. They just got off from a short jaunt around the West Coast with Rhett Miller (of the Old 97s) and are currently planning an East Coast tour this May that will take them to New York, Chicago and Boston among many other cities in support of their 2009 release Roomful of Smoke.

Two little known facts about Leslie and the Badgers: 1. Ben and Travis have been wrongfully accused of having ironic mustaches. Only their soul patches are ironic. 2. They have a collection of badger related memorabilia including mugs, magnets, figurines, stuffed animals, etc. They welcome additions to their collection with open arms.

At Friday’s show, they will be playing alongside Eric D. Johnson (of the Fruit Bats), Breathe Owl Breathe and Shakey Graves. Tix are $10 in advance, $13 at the door and you can buy them here. Tomorrow’s spotlight: Eric D. Johnson of the Fruit Bats.
