RIP Dennis Hopper
Filed under: News | Posted by:

Dennis Hopper passed away on Saturday at the age of 74 after a long battle with cancer. He was an intensely creative spirit who found outlets as an actor, filmmaker, photographer, painter and poet. I was trying to think up the proper way to pay tribute to ol’ Hopper when I found these two videos of him performing on the Johnny Cash Show in 1970. The first video features Hopper and Johnny Cash singing Kris Kristofferson’s “Pilgrim Chapter 33.” In the second video, Hopper recites the poem “If.”  Enjoy the clips and RIP Hopper.

The song written by Kristofferson is “Pilgrim Chapter 33″, on the Silver-Tongued Devil and I album. OMG, I can’t bear to think about it, or what it’ll feel like when Willie and Kris cross over. Doesn’t seem like much reason to stay in this realm when all my friends are already on the other side making music and feeling fine. RIP, you’ll always be “THE MAN”. And the world is a much lonelier place with you gone….

Thanks Desiree for the beautiful words and the head’s up about the song. Much appreciated!

Thank you for this. I think that footage of Hopper reciting the poem is a great snapshot of what he stood for for as an actor and a person.
