Here’s the promo clip for San Francisco band Kak’s first single release, from their one and only album,  1968’s Kak (later reissued on CD with bonus tracks as Kak-Ola). This primarily psychedelic jam band — led by lead vocalist/guitarist/primary songwriter Gary Lee Yoder and lead guitarist Dehner Patten — originally hailed from Davis, California, but spent much of ’68 in the Bay Area, which perhaps accounts for the reason they were typically accused of being a bit too derivative for their own good. Their local contemporaries were bands like Quicksilver Messenger Service, Moby Grape, Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, each of whom were so definitively blazing their own trail that it would be hard to ignore their influence. Alas, Kak didn’t last long, and within a year Yoder went on to join Blue Cheer.
