We are sad to have missed the Jayhawks’ — reunited an’ it feels so good — recently at Manhattan’s Webster Hall. Yet that doesn’t mean we cannot revel in the new reissues of arguably the finest band of the 1990s alt-country wave. Hollywood Town Hall & the chef d’oeuvre Tomorrow the Green Grass are available now. View the clip above of Gary Louris, Mark Olson et al performing “Waiting For the Sun” for their network tv debut on Letterman back in the day (circa 1991) — if y’all need a refresher.
Well apparently I still have wallets and Wes Lang on the mind….Fortunately Repop Mfg help take care of both these obsessions in one swoop. The Wes Lang wallet, which retails at $125, is a billfold cut from vegetable tanned leather. They are dyed, waxed & edged by hand in California with each wallet sporting an individual edition number (there are only 100 of these wallets in existence!). More photos are after the jump.
Sharon Van Etten with Cat Martino performing “One Day” from Etten’s second full length record, Epic (out now via Ba Da Bing!). Sharon is currently in the midst of a 30-date US tour that will bring her to beautiful Los Angeles tomorrow night, Friday, March 25th with a gig at the Satellite. It’s been a busy year for Sharon, what with recording her next full-length album with Aaron Dessner (of the National) and playing solo shows in Europe opening for the National. Maybe if you are lucky, you’ll get to hear some of the new gems tomorrow night! In the meantime, please enjoy this MP3 below from Epic for your listening pleasure.

Pentangle performing “The Hunting Song,” a tune based on the theme of the Elizabethan round “Heigh-ho, nobody home,” and the mediæval story of a magic drinking horn sent by Morgana le Fay to the court of King Arthur. This track, referred to here as a “thirteen-century rock ‘n’ roll song,” originally appeared on Pentangle’s Basket Of Light album. This footage comes from their BBC special circa 1971.
