John Prine- Crazy as a Loon
For all our friends in Los Angeles, Nashville and NYC, here’s the great John Prine performing his song “Crazy as a Loon” live in 2005. Thanks to Dawes for playing it the other night at the Slaughtered Lamb in London and putting the tune back on our radar.
Johnny Cash as shot by Don Hunstein in San Antonio, TX in 1959.

Unbelievable footage dating back to the heyday of the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles circa 1966.
Word on the street (aka Jonathan Wilson’s Twitter) is that Jackson Browne will be stopping by the Slaughtered Lamb in London tonight to join Dawes and Jonathan Wilson on stage for a couple of tunes. Though the tickets we were giving away are long gone, you can still buy tickets for only £7.50. Get them while you can! Expect it to be something like this:

Sarah Jarosz- My Muse

Listen up, London! We are giving away one (1) pair of tickets to see a co-headlining show of Dawes and Jonathan Wilson tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 19th at Pull Up The Roots at the Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell. Believe me when I say that this is an intimate venue…meaning you will have face to face access with some of the best musicians to come out of Los Angeles in recent years. But don’t just take my word for it. Why don’t you ask Jackson Browne, Robbie Robertson, Elvis Costello, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Vetiver or any of the countless others who they count as collaborators and fans. Seriously, enter the contest or buy tickets (£7.50 advance / £10 door)…but get on it now!
Dawes- Love Is All I Am
Jonathan Wilson- Gentle Spirit
To win tix, e-mail whenyouawakela @ gmail.com (subject: Dawes and Jonathan Wilson) and tell us what your favorite song about California is. Include your first and last name in the email. One winner will be chosen tonight and contacted. Check out a bonus video of the two acts performing “Late For the Sky” with Jackson Browne after the jump.

Here’s a 1971 promotional clip, originally shot on 8mm, featuring Kris Kristofferson and members of his band, the Border Lords: Stephen Bruton (on acoustic lead guitar), Terry Paul (bass) and Donnie Fritts (keyboards). Thanks to our friend Rod Melancon for finding this beaut. Side note: Check out the name etched into Kristofferson’s guitar at the 3:12 mark. Gotta love it.
