Friday Night’s Got Me Feelin’ All Right: It’s Picnic Time
Filed under: Friday Night
If the sun’s out to shine, why not make it picnic time?
For a rustic cowboy experience, head out to a grassy meadow or somewhere that would provide a grand view of the sunset. Since you’ll be following the rural way, replace the champagne flutes with mugs, and instead of finger sandwiches, I suggest some authentic cowboy grub: corn, biscuits, stew, potatoes, and pie. Bring a thermos of hot cocoa or coffee (and maybe accompany those beverages with some whiskey) to wash down all that savory food. Bundle up and have a blanket to share, and if possible, go some place where it’s safe (and legal) to have an open fire for an extra romantic spark.
For some silly amusement, grab a banjo, tambourine, washboard, or anything you can get a beat with. After that whiskey coffee warms your belly, sing some ole cowboy songs together, such as “Clementine”, “You are my Sunshine”, and “Yellow Rose of Texas.” Don’t know the words? Print out one copy of the lyrics (which can be found at http://www.lonehand.com/cowboy_songs_index.htm) and share it, just one more way to be close to one another.
For those advanced picnic-ers who know there way around a guitar, why not actually do a little serenading. We would suggest “Flesh and Blood” by Johnny Cash. With lines like “Mother Nature’s quite a lady, but you’re the one for me,” you’ll have ‘em eating our of your hand in no time!
Check out the chords to Flesh and Blood after the jump.
