Israel Marco from the Barcelona, Spain band Cuchillo has given us his “Top 10 Songs From Here and There.” The mix features tunes by Uruguayan singer/songwriter Eduardo Mateo, Moroccan violinist Adessadek Chekara and German band Popol Vuh among others. Marco is currently in Los Angeles where he’s mixing the follow-up to Cuchillo’s critically acclaimed 2008 self-titled debut record. Among other honors, it was chosen as one of the Best Albums of the Decade by premiere Spanish music mag Rockdelux. The new EP is set to be released this spring in Spain via Limbo Starr and boasts two songs on Side A and a 15-minute improvisation on Side B. British singer Findlay Brown has given us his “Top 10 Songs For Driving Nowhere.” The mix features Swedish psych rock by Pugh Rogefeldt, Peruvian tropical boogaloo by Charlie Palomares and a track from the pseudo-Japanese concept album by French production duo Jean Kluger and Daniel Vangarde (aka Yamasuki) among others. Brown will be performing tonight at the Henry Fonda Theater with Nouvelle Vague and headlining tomorrow at the Echo with Pizza!, Superhumanoids and the Cobra Lillies. Nouvelle Vague just released their third full length record 3 in October (out now via Peacefrog Records) and are currently in the midst of a world tour that will take them to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming weeks and then over to the US in January with a stop in Los Angeles on February 9th at the Henry Fonda Theater. The Growlers from Long Beach, California have given us a song by song guide to Harry Nilsson’s 1971 album The Point!. The guide, which is entitled “The Growler’s Top 10 Songs to Get Stoney Baloney on the Zong To”, is the perfect way to experience a record about which Nilsson explained: “I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, ‘Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn’t, then there’s a point to it.’” Check out the mixtape, and the video for the Growler’s own tune “Something and Something, Jr”, after the jump.
